Pandit Narayanrao Vyas was one of the founder members of the The Vyas Academy Of Indian Music. He was the younger brother of Pandit Shankarrao Vyas. Pandit Narayanrao Vyas was a renowned teacher and concert performer. He also performed programmes on radio. He toured and traveled extensively and performed in a number of prestigious music concerts throughout North India. He was one of the most popular and sought-after vocalists of his generation. His songs were recorded by the Gramophone Company (HMV) in Mumbai. The recorded songs are in Hindustani, Marathi and a few are in Gujarati. Narayan Rao sang ragas using Marathi bandishes (some composed by his brother Shankar Rao), and bhajans. His records were among the biggest best sellers of his day
Pandit Shankarrao Vyas was one of the founder members of the The Vyas Academy Of Indian Music. He was one the favorite disciples of his legendary master Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar. He wrote a book on the subject of sitar. He also wrote various books on vocal music namely Prathamik Sangeet –Part 1 & 2, Madhyamik Sangeet – Part 1 & 2, Vyas Kruti to name a few. He composed music for over fifty “talkie” films, in Marathi, Hindi and Gujarati over the period from 1937 to 1955. His musical score in ‘Purnima’ ‘Bharat Milap’, ‘Ram Raiya’ ‘Vikramaditya’ and other films represented an experiment with new styles. Pandit Shankarrao Vyas in collaboration with Pandit Khare brought together all the past alumni of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and set up a general council known as Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal to co-ordinate the work of the Mahavidyalaya.
